Manufacturing Sustainable Cement for the Southwest Market

Making Eco-Friendly Cement a Reality

Along with our parent company, Grupo UNACEM, UNACEM North America is working to produce environmentally sustainable cement. We know that an eco-friendly approach will lessen the local impact of our work, helping us be a better neighbor to the local ecosystem and its residents. Our goal is to be profitable and productive while minimizing harm.

Grupo UNACEM and Sustainable Construction Material Production

The facilities that are part of the Grupo UNACEM family fall under a three-tiered strategy of responsibility and sustainability. Manufacturing cement, ready-mix concrete, and aggregates are resource-heavy processes, but Grupo UNACEM is taking strides to lessen the impact.

Environmental Responsibility

The facilities of Grupo UNACEM seek to be carbon neutral by 2050. Some of the strategies to meet goal include increasing recycled material in the cement process, reducing clinker use, and seeking clean energy alternatives.

Social Responsibility

Grupo UNACEM expects all of its facilities to be good neighbors in their communities. We want to improve the local quality of life as well as promote personal and professional development for our employees and their families.

Sustainable Governance

The companies of Grupo UNACEM strive for transparency and open communication with stakeholders.  Our corporate structure, committees, and guiding principles are all configured to create value for our company, community, and clients.

UNACEM North America Sustainability Report

As a proud part of UNACEM North America, a division of Grupo UNACEM, we are committed to making our environmental impact transparent and measurable. The 2024 Sustainability Report offers a clear picture of how we’re contributing to the region’s larger sustainability goals.

The report details our use of renewable biomass fuel, responsible water use, and rigorous waste management practices—all part of our effort to operate more efficiently and responsibly. It also tracks our emissions, safety performance, and investments in training and development, reinforcing our commitment to long-term environmental and social responsibility. This is just the beginning. At UNACEM-NA, we’re building momentum toward a cleaner, smarter future in the production of building materials.

Energy Star Certified

UNACEM has earned 2025 ENERGY STAR® certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for one of its cement manufacturing facilities. The ENERGY STAR label on display at the plant represents proven, verified superior energy performance over a 12-month period. In fact, ENERGY STAR certified plants perform in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide.

This marks the first year that UNACEM has earned the ENERGY STAR certification for this facility. By meeting these rigorous standards, UNACEM is demonstrating its commitment to energy efficiency—reducing energy use, lowering operating costs, and helping protect the environment by performing more efficiently than comparable facilities.

For more than 20 years, the EPA’s ENERGY STAR program has been America’s trusted resource for saving energy and protecting the environment. Today, thousands of facility owners and managers rely on ENERGY STAR to benchmark, manage, and continuously improve the energy performance of their buildings and industrial plants.
